 13th International Conference on Optical Communications and Networks

To support fast Internet traffic growth, optical transport networks need to increase capacity in an efficient manner. For better capacity efficiency, next-generation optical transmission techniques such as optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (O-OFDM) and Nyquist WDM have been extensively investigated, and optical networks that take advantage of these new efficient transmission techniques (termed “elastic optical networks”) are also being widely studied. These advances are reflected from the levels of optical devices such as bandwidth-variable wavelength selective switch (WSS), subsystems such as bandwidth-variable reconfigurable add/drop multiplexer (ROADM), to networks such as OpenFlow-based network control plane and associated network-level design and optimization. ICOCN 2014 will address cutting-edge research in the areas ranging from optical devices, subsystems, to networks. There are three tracks including.

Track 2: Optical transmission subsystems and techniques 

  • New/improved algorithms or methods for modeling transmission systems
  • WDM and high-speed transmission systems
  • Modelling and experiments on the system impact of fiber propagation effects (nonlinear effects, PDL, PMD, mode coupling, etc.)
  • Free-space optical digital transmission systems
  • Design, performance and control of network elements and nodes
  • Advanced modulation and detection schemes for enhancing transmission performance
  • Digital signal processing and algorithms for optical transceivers
  • Algorithms and subsystems for realizing forward error correction
  • Signal Processing, Algorithms and Subsystems for Optical Performance Monitoring

  • Photonic crystal, ring resonator, grating, and other nano-optic devices

  • Integrated devices containing passive silicon, silica, polymer, or other dielectric planar lightwave circuits

Authors are encouraged to submit full papers describing original, previously unpublished research results, not currently under review by another conference or journal, addressing state-of-the-art research and development in the area of optical devices, subsystems, communications and networks. The accepted full papers will be published in the conference proceedings and submitted for inclusion in IEEE Xplore. Accepted full papers will be submitted for indexing to multiple abstract and indexing partners.
